🎵 Mac Demarco - Here Comes The Cowboy
One of the most misunderstood and over-hated albums of the 2010s, surely.
Yeah, it’s not perfect, but the melancholy, slow, and sparse yet warm and comforting sound scratches an itch I didn’t know I had. It’s a sonic "things will turn out alright" and a deep breath. I also love how the closing track “Baby Bye Bye” shows the same ol’ Mac is still in there.
To me the album felt like a conscious rejection of the music biz Indie King crazy live persona and a good-bye to his signature “jizz-jazz” sound that was copied to death. When I last saw Mac perform in 2019 and I was bummed to hear a crowd of people screaming “Mac take your shirt off!!”, and other jokes, while he tried to play these lovely quiet songs.
I hope he continues maturing in this direction. I like it quite a bit.
Oh, and check out Mac’s Perfectly Imperfect recommendations:)
Have a nice day 🫶
